Jim Schwartz
Born: Sacramento California 1944
Formative years spent in Sacramento/San Joaquin Valley.
Into the US army 1961, train in artillery/rockets at Vicenza, Italy 2 ½ years. Honorably discharged 1964.
Student life in California and various elements of the work force.
1967 went to Quebec to go to the Montreal museum school of fine art. Then to Vancouver B.C. then to coastal communities to work construction, commercial fishing, welding, fabrication, sign painting, graphic design, sales, etc.
Pursuits in the arts have included: Chinese landscape painting, acrylic on canvas, watercolors, cloisonné enameling, fabrication and lost wax casting of gold and silver jewelry, sculpture in welded aluminum and steel, cast bronze.
Stone carving in marble, chlorite, alabaster, limestone, basalt, and sandstone in various places including California, Washington, Colorado, New Mexico, Italy, British Columbia.
Interests: archaeology, history, Buddhism, travel, language, and writing.
“cult objects” is the current theme in a series of marble pieces underway in the workshop.
Except for works that reside in private collections or are on loan, the
Tofino studio houses the inventory of the artist.
